Dr. Sherif Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, inaugurated the new "LuLu Hypermarket" branch in the 5th Settlement area. This opening is part of the state's strategy to develop the internal trade system and expand modern retail chains in partnership with the private sector to provide essential goods at high quality and competitive prices.
The inauguration was attended by Major General Walid Abul-Magd, Vice Minister of Supply, Dr. Mohamed Awad Ibrahim, Chairman of the Internal Trade Development Authority (ITDA), and Mr. Ahmed Kamal, Assistant Minister and Official Spokesperson. Representing LuLu Group were Mr. Huzaifa Qureshi, Regional Director, and Mr. Wael Ramadan, General Manager of Retail for Egypt.
The opening of this branch complements the role played by ITDA in developing trade projects across governorates through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP). This model ensures operational efficiency, reduces distribution cycles, and lowers costs within the supply chain in the Egyptian market.
In this context, Dr. Sherif witnessed the signing of a cooperation protocol between the Ministry of Supply (represented by ITDA) and LuLu Hypermarket to participate in the national price reduction initiative. This includes allocating spaces in all current and future branches to display essential commodities at discounted prices, further strengthening the partnership with the private sector.
The Minister explained that the LuLu Group currently operates four fully functional branches: Wadi Degla, 1st Settlement, Park Mall, and the newly opened 5th Settlement branch. This expansion supports the state's efforts to provide modern outlets and essential goods for citizens.
The 5th Settlement branch spans an area of approximately 15,000 square meters, with investments estimated at 500 million EGP. The project also provides around 1,000 direct and indirect job opportunities.
Dr. Mohamed Awad Ibrahim, Chairman of ITDA, confirmed that LuLu Group intends to pump new investments into the Egyptian market, including an expansion plan to establish two additional hypermarkets during 2026 in Obour City and the 6th of October City.
